BETSY HAMMER VOCAL STUDIO
FAQ'S
Do you coach beginning vocalists?
-
Absolutely! I teach all levels from the complete novice to professional recording artists and performers.
How often should I take lessons?
-
I suggest all of my students try and take at least one lesson a week. Especially in the beginning when the concepts are still new to you. The more frequently you come, the faster you’ll grow and improve. When preparing for a specific project (concert, performance, audition, presentation, recording) my students come as often as every day.
Do I have to sing songs that you choose or can I choose what I sing?
-
I believe it’s very important that everyone enjoys the songs they sing! I’m happy to work on any repertoire that you bring to the studio as well as make song suggestions for you. Pop. Country. Rock. Classical. Musical Theatre. Alternative, etc. Whichever songs you love, need or want to prepare, we’ll tackle them to get you sounding the best you can possibly sound!
Can you help me learn how to record in a professional recording studio?
-
Yes, absolutely! At BH Vocal Studio you’ll have the opportunity to practice with microphones (“working on mic”) and learn excellent vocal techniques that will prepare you should you decide to record at any professional recording studio!
I love to sing but after a short while I get hoarse and can’t sing a note. Can you help me?
-
Yes! I’ll show you what you are doing that is causing your voice to become hoarse and how to correct it. We’ll work on techniques that will allow your voice to heal so that you can sing easily without feeling fatigued.
I think I may have nodes on my vocal cords - what should I do?
-
The first thing you need to do is visit a doctor, an “ENT (Ear-Nose-Throat) specialist (formally known as an “otorhinolaryngologist”). First you’ll need to find out what non-surgical options are available to you. Surgery should be a last resort! Once we learn what the ENT physician finds, we’ll start your journey on the path back to complete vocal health. With the proper diagnosis and treatment, vocal cords generally heal. Then with proper and enjoyable exercises you’ll be able to sing freely!
I love to sing in the shower but I’m scared to death to sing in front of anyone. Can you help me overcome my fear of singing in public? I want voice lessons but I’m terrified.
-
I understand! I’ll give you the techniques, tools, support and encouragement you need to overcome your fears. There are many students who want to sing but are very frightened of other people’s reactions. Your fears will go away after the first lesson or two. With practice you’ll improve and gain tremendous self-confidence!
-
BH Vocal Studio has a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you have an emergency and you can’t get to your vocal lesson, you’ll have the opportunity to make up that lesson during the work week so that you won’t be charged for the missed time.
